Farm & Food Sovereignty
We recognize how our country was built on the exploitation of Black and Brown people and stealing of indigenous land. Our Farm and Food Sovereignty Program is built around seeing how the land also provides refugees and immigrants along with other communities of color a source of self-determination through growing and cooking our own fresh cultural foods. We currently grow on Lenni Lenape occupied land and honor the history of the tenders of this land before us. We are very grateful to have access to two sites: Resilient Roots Farm in Camden, NJ and Furness Community School Garden in Philadelphia, PA.
The following are the values in which we grow:
Creating space for youth/elder intergenerational healing and relationship building
Providing natural fresh cultural foods to low income communities and not rely on corporations
Reclaiming our cultural and ancestral practices with growing, preserving and preparing our food
Generating employment and social entrepreneurship
Rooting ourselves in the history of our plant-cestors and people ancestors
To cultivate land for community development not displacement
Heal and grow our mental, physical, and emotional health
Build local governance to make decisions about the garden/farm
